How It All Started

I [Jonathan] grew up in a pretty big family ten miles outside of a one stoplight town near the North Carolina/Virginia border. I was 1 of only 3, but my mom was 1 of 8 and my dad was 1 of 21! When I was four years old I talked my parents into letting me get a hen, a Rhode Island Red which we named Henny Penny.

Being that no one on either side of my large family raised poultry, and having the interest and desire that I had for them, it became evident to me that my Creator had given me this passion. From the age of eight, I had the desire to have a well designed farm with clean facilities to house a large collection of poultry, each being an excellent representation of their breed. Later in life knowing that a farm would take consistent work, my idea was to provide opportunities for the youth who loved birds as much as my friend and I did when we were young to come help out. Being like my friend and I, they would thoroughly enjoy themselves and even earn a little pocket change. More importantly, the farm would be an environment for them to grow as an individual without the pressures of society. An opportunity to learn more about responsibility, integrity, character, business practices and to potentially earn a real income based on their entrepreneurial desires.

After 30+ years of having that desire and now having a family of my own, we broke ground on the first phase of The Poultry Collection in February 2025. Outside of a few exceptions, we don't breed birds for sales. We market only what our small brood pens will produce naturally to support our church who are boots on the ground for our communities, the farm, help on the farm, and lastly our family.
